A lot changes between a child’s third and sixth birthdays: watching turns into participating, and ten minutes of attention turns into thirty.
At age three, activities that don’t require sitting still are especially suitable: children’s farms, playgrounds with organized activities, and open activities at family centers
. At age four, longer activities are added—fairy tales, interactive concerts, and guided family tours at museums. At age five, most activities rated for ages five and up are suitable, and many rated for ages six and up: storytelling performances, first movie screenings, and workshops with real tools.
