At this age, the term “children’s program” is increasingly viewed negatively—what’s in demand is something that’s taken seriously.
What works best are activities where children get to make or discover things for themselves: programming and technology workshops, natural history and observatories, printing and woodworking workshops, city rallies, and scavenger hunts. Museums are now appealing even without special programs, as long as the theme is right. In the theater, plays are emerging that deal with friendship, conflict, and injustice rather than fairy tales.
Many activities are more fun in pairs or groups of three than just with parents. Workshops often have limited space and need to be booked one to two weeks in advance.
